On Monday the 22nd of May Michael Stewart from Caritas* came to St Patrick’s Primary School. He came to tell us about the natural disasters that have happened around the world. First he talked to room 6, 5 and the Learning Hub then he had talked to Rooms 1, 2 and 4.
He told us about all the natural disasters that had happened in Fiji* and the flooding in New Zealand, climate change in the Pacific, the war in South Sudan and the aid Caritas is giving by helping those who need food, water and supplies for living.
Caritas helps by giving support when there’s been a disaster like earthquakes, volcanic eruptions, tsunamis etc. They give temporary accommodation and food and clothes and emotional support .
We learnt lots about climate change all around the world. We also learnt lots about Caritas and what they do. Caritas is a very awesome charity!
*Caritas is a charity that works around the world in places like New Zealand, Papua New Guinea, the Pacific Islands, Asia and Africa. Every year they hold a fundraising event called Mufti Mania. Mufti Mania is a day where you get to wear mufti in uniformed schools as long as you bring a gold coin. This year’s cause is for Nawi Catholic Primary School who need power, toilets and books for their library.
